Snow Removal Ordinances

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT CHAPTER 70 OF THE WESTON MUNICIPAL CODE OF ORDINANCES WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.

Sec. 70.104. Depositing snow removal. "It shall be unlawful for any person to push or deposit snow, or cause snow to be pushed or deposited from his own personal driveway or parking area into the public streets and/or right-of-way so as to cause a nuisance or obstruction. The Village may cause such deposits of snow to be removed from the street, and the cost of such removal shall be charged to the property owner."

Sec. 70.112. Cleaning of sidewalks. "The owner of property or the party in possession of the property abutting on any sidewalk shall, without notice and at all times, keep such abutting sidewalk clean and free from debris, dirt, sweepings, obstructions and clear of snow and ice and shall not deposit or place any sweepings or debris or other foreign matter upon the sidewalk, or in the street. Snow and ice shall be removed within 48 hours. If any owner shall fail or neglect to keep any sidewalk free of debris, dirt, sweepings, obstructions, snow or ice, the Village may proceed to clear such sidewalk and shall charge the expense, as determined by the Village Board in the village schedule of fees, thereof as a special tax against the premises to be collected as other taxes on real estate. The Village may, but shall not be required to, give notice to the owners of the property before providing for the Village to clear such walks."

The Village will be responsible for clearing sidewalks, walkways, driveways, and parking lots around Village-owned and maintained buildings and properties. The Village will also be responsible for clearing the sidewalks of the three major four-lane main thoroughfares that run through the Village; Camp Phillips Road, Business Highway 51 and Schofield Avenue. All multi-use paths within the Village will be cleared by the Village as well. All other sidewalks of the Village, not listed above, are the responsibility of the property owners of the building or lot.

Pursuant to Wisconsin Statutes 66.0907(5), the Village may also impose a fine or penalty for neglecting to keep sidewalks clear of snow and ice.

Please remember to follow the Village's winter parking restrictions so our plows can get through. From October 31st to May 1st, alternate side parking is in effect for all streets in the Village of Weston between 4:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. During this time, vehicles shall be parked on the even-numbered side of the street on even-numbered calendar days, and on the odd side of the street on odd-numbered calendar days.

For your safety please stay at least 200 feet behind a snowplow and/or salt truck as the trucks will frequently start and stop and may need to back up. Vehicles following closer than 200 feet may not be seen by the driver.
