We want to make you aware of an important update regarding the Village’s garbage and recycling collection services. After a competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) process in early 2025, Harter’s Fox Valley Disposal was selected as the Village’s new service provider. Harter’s will begin collection services on January 1, 2026. The responses to the Request for Proposals are attached HERE.
As part of the RFP process, the Village explored cost options for garbage and recycling collection, including the possibility of transitioning to weekly service for both. However, the associated cost increase for weekly recycling was ultimately prohibitive. Under the new contract, Harter’s will provide weekly garbage and bi-weekly recycling service. As we prepare for this transition, here are key changes residents can expect:
🔺 Annual Refuse and Recycling Fee Will Increase
The Village has not raised the refuse and recycling fee in seven years. While the RFP process was competitive and ensured market-based pricing, costs will increase due to rising material, labor, and operational expenses.
♻️ New 95-Gallon Carts for Trash and Recycling
Harter’s will provide each single-family home and residential building (up to four units) with new 95-gallon carts for both trash and recycling. Each cart will include an informational packet with Harter’s contact details.
- Cart delivery is expected to begin in early December.
- Residents who prefer a smaller 65-gallon cart can request an exchange after the first two months of service.
- Waste Management carts will be collected after their final pickup.

🗑️ Bulk Item Drop-Off Site is Changing
Our Spring and Fall Bulk Item Drop-Off Events will continue! However, beginning January 1, 2026, drop-off will take place at:
Harter’s Ringle Facility

Note: For fall 2025, the drop-off event will still occur at the Waste Management location, 5509 Fuller Street, Weston.
🔖 Overflow Stickers for Trash and Recycling
Overflow stickers will now be available for both excess refuse and recycling starting January 1, 2026.
